Who We Are

Who We Are is a grassroots operation. We are a small but determined band of women (Sheila, Maria, Charlene and Cindy) who, several times a week, minister to women seeking an abortion at a Planned Parenthood in Southern California. We provide pregnancy resources, love, prayers, an empathetic ear, Kleenex, etc., in hopes that a woman might have a change of heart and keep her baby and her peace of mind. (In the middle of 2010, Sheila had to move east to help care for her dad. She continues 'pro-love' work there but occasionally revisits Los Angeles and joins her friends to minister at the clinic).

We have spoken with hundreds of women and heard their stories. You might be surprised to hear that convenience is the main reason for abortion – not rape, incest or severe illness of the mother. We often hear comments like “I need to finish school first” or “I have two kids already” or “My boyfriend is cheating on me and I don’t want this kid.”
Mothers bring in their teenage daughters and tell us that they are too young to have kids.

Sadly, people have been conditioned to think of abortion as their first option when faced with an unplanned pregnancy. Even sadder, when asked to consider adoption, most women say they couldn't bear to give their baby to someone else. We want to do our part to change that kind of thinking, to empower women with better choices.

We are Christians (Catholic and Protestant). But we have done our research and learned that all major religions and even groups of atheists and agnostics firmly believe in the sanctity of human life.
